Book crossing.com

BookCrossing (also: BC, BCing or BXing) is defined as "the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise." The term is derived from bookcrossing.com, a free online book club which began in order to encourage the practice, aiming to "make the whole world a library."If you`re a great writer, but no one wanted to publish your book, this website let`s you share your book with everyone online!

The 'crossing' or exchanging of books may take any of a number of forms, including wild releasing books in public, direct swaps with other members of the websites, or "book rings" in which books travel in a set order to participants who want to read a certain book. The community aspect of BookCrossing.com has grown and expanded in ways that were not expected at the outset, in the form of blog or forum discussions, mailing lists and annual conventions throughout the world.

Quillpad - Typing Tool

Quillpad is a free online Indian language typing tool. You can type in Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali and Nepali.

For example, when you type 'aap kaise hain' in Hindi, Quillpad will convert it directly into Devanagari script. If you write a word like 'vishesh', first sh should become 'श' and the second sh should become 'ष'. Quillpad will intelligently do that for you. No need to use shift keys or to memorize any key mappings. So 'राष्ट्रपति' can be written by typing 'rashtrapati' or 'raashtrapathi'.

Quillpad can also predict if multiple words are possible for your input. You can click on the word to select from those options. In addition Quillpad allows you to type English words freely in between Hindi words. It intelligently transliterates them into Hindi.

Excerpt from Yahoo! corp. Blog - Y! - Microsoft Deal

What our Microsoft deal means to you
Posted July 29th, 2009 at 4:55 am by Carol Bartz, CEO

It’s inhumanly early in California, but it’s already a great day at Yahoo!. We’ve just signed a major search deal with Microsoft. Under the terms, Microsoft will become the search engine behind Yahoo! and we will become the worldwide exclusive relationship sales force for both companies’ premium search advertisers.

While you’ll read a lot about why this is good for our business and for advertisers, I want to talk about what’s in it for you -– the Yahoo! fan.

Here’s the rundown:

Better search: You’ll still find search boxes all across Yahoo!, but this deal will make the difference between a great Yahoo! search experience and an awesome one. Some of the biggest brains in the business work on Yahoo! Search, and they will continue to innovate to create a better search experience on Yahoo!. As a result of the deal, Microsoft, which has great technologists and deep pockets, will have the scale to bring users faster, more useful and more personally relevant search.
Better everything else: With Microsoft powering Yahoo! Search, we’ll be able to focus on the things we do best -– being the center of people’s lives online with properties like our homepage, mail, finance, news, sports, entertainment, mobile, etc. Sure, we’re the world’s largest online media company and your loyalty has made that possible. But we’re not satisfied – we still want you to say “wow” a lot more often. And that’s what makes this deal especially exciting.
Better competition: Competition equals innovation. But with one player dominating 70% of search, that field has been pretty lopsided. This transaction will create a healthy competitor that’ll keep everyone on their toes.
In short, everything’s just going to get a whole lot better for you.

And one final note — what this agreement does not cover is any of Yahoo!’s other properties or products. In those areas, Microsoft can expect a fierce competitor.

We’ve set up a special site, www.choicevalueinnovation.com that answers your questions.

Carol Bartz
CEO

Yahoo! Know Your Mojo!

Yahoo! recently released a new service Know Your Mojo! that will “scientifically” analyze and determine your “social mojo” which is basically your Twitter ranking based on the type of tweets you send out. Know Your Mojo! is not like your typical boring Twitter ranking site, it’s a fun and entertaining way of finding out your Twitter ranking or status.

Yahoo! & Google results in a single page

Ever wished to get both Yahoo! and Google search results in a single page?

Yahoogle! is a search-engine-mashup built to put the top search engines to the test. Google is the most popular search engine in the world but there has been recent fanfare saying that Yahoo! provides the safest and most relevant results. Now the links are anonymized so we can see which engine really does give the best results.

How does it work?
Using Google's and Yahoo!'s search APIs, the top five results from each query are intertwined. Keeping their relative order the same, they are mixed randomly in order to ensure an even distribution across the front-page. To make sure that clicks aren't biased, the results are anonymized by displaying them in exactly the same format. As a result of this, as stipulated by the TOU for each API, I must attribute the respective search engine for providing a result. This is why there is a confirmation click-through dialogue before opening the requested page.

Big Huge Labs - Photo editor

BigHugeLabs allows you to take a current photo library to create interesting documents and presentations, and fun stuff like puzzles, CD covers and motivational posters.

The application is very simple to use. Go to the Website and select a template. A form will open up that shows all of the options for that template, as well as an image upload option. Fill in the blanks with any kind of information and upload an image. BigHugeLabs works in conjunction with Flickr, but it isn’t necessary to have a Flickr account.

Finally, if you’re tired of just the typical paper or PowerPoint, this is an optional way to make presentations. It has plenty of room for creativity and content. The MapMaker template might be a good choice for projects, while the Sunset tool could be used for studying seasonal changes in different parts of the world. Plus, it is just a lot of fun – dare you to not try the Hockneyizer!
